Overall this photograph is a fascinating study in the everyday functions of life. The subject matter, laundry on a line, is not a new subject. Historically, many photographers have used tenement scenes of criss-crossing clothes lines to emphasize crowded conditions and the intrusiveness of crowded conditions in ghetto environments. Often the only sign of individualality in these photos were the occasional personal items attached to a line.
In this photo we see the opposite. On one lonely line we see identical aprons hanging in the dark, seemingly unpopulated street scene. The emphasis here seems to be more about normal life surviving in abandonment of the post baby boom era.
I am impressed.
