Farbraum 2 is a humble effort, a drawing without pretense or psychology, that immediately connects with the viewer. It is undoubtably abstract: there are no recognizable elements drawn from the real world to lead the viewer into a predetermined interpretation. Perhaps this makes abstract painting one of the most difficult undertakings in art, not to mention one of the most misunderstood.

The essence of Farbraum2 is rhythm. If this painting were music, it would probably be jazz, variations on a theme of horizontal and vertical. The diagonals give the illusiion of depth, but they appear to be indecisive, as if striving to be horizonal or vertical also. Line is unquestionably the predominant element, despite the vivid colors. In the entire drawing, the line controls: "Purely repetitive and therefore structural" as Paul Klee wrote. Structure and balance are evident: this drawing refuses to fall, despite all indications that it cannot stand.

In any good art, like any good song, in addition to the rhythm, the line, there is the melody, the color. Farbraum2 is by nature not an organic composition, but it becomes organic with omission of yellow, the most inorganic of all colors. Without yellow , the sweetness of the green, the brilliance of vermillion and the cool tourqouise provide the tenor and the earthy orange and purple provide the baritone. It's not exactly harmony, but it works.

The most imporant aspect of Farbraum2 is its universality. There is no overt message: nothing moral, politcal or controversial is being communicated. It is an invitation to anyone, anywhere, to appreciate rhythm and melody in their purest form: line and color.
